Purl troubles!

Hi! I know how to do the English method of knitting and purling and have no trouble. I have picked up on Continental knitting very quickly, as well. I think I have the basic idea for Continental purling, but there is one problem -- the next row is nearly impossible to knit! Each loop seems to be turned the wrong way! The back of the stitch is above the front, instead of the other way around, if that makes any sense. A friend of mine said to just knit into the back of the stitches instead of the front and it would be fine, but I find this almost impossible to do! What am I doing wrong?? Thanks in advance!
