I've just begun my first knitting project in many, many years, and chose an easy chenille vest to start, figuring that the speed and ease would be encouraging. Using the two-tail cast-on, I snugged each stitch up to the needle, but left it loose enough to readily slide over the needle. Nonetheless, now that I'm eight inches into the project, it appears that the cast-on row just doesn't stretch with the rest of the project. In fact, the vest back appears to balloon over the cast-on row. I know I tend to knit loosely, and because of that, I've been very careful to counteract that tendency, making each stitch snug, but not tight. What happened? Does the chenille have anything to do with this? Or the size 11 needles? Should I tear it out and start over? If so, how do I keep this from happening again? Thanks for any help you might offer.
