Hello and thank you so much for the video on casting on. I'm a total beginner, but feel like I'm grasping the stiches ok. My question is about the tail? I'm no good a reading patterns (yet) but, if I, say, wanted to knit a ten inch wide swatch..... what is the rule of thumb for how much of a tail? Or, is there a cast on rule? (5 stitches = 1 inch?) help. I'm very confused about casting on the right amount. I have a plan to make a small bag (no pattern), but can't figure out how much to cast on?
