Yes, you can convert a pattern using two strands to one strand knitting. The key,
however, is gauge (or stitches per inch) rather than the number of strands used in
knitting. If the one strand of yarn you are using is as bulky as the two stands in the
pattern, it makes no difference. However, to be accurate, it is wise to make a 26
stitch swatch. Go to the link below for our instructions
for making a swatch. We suggest a swatch for each new project you do, even if
you are using the yarn the pattern suggests, bcause there are three variables in
knitting--the yarn, the needles and the knitter (whether the knitter knits tight or loose,
etc). They all impact the knitted fabric.
